Infertility Isn’t Just a Female Problem

June 3, 2021

What causes Male Infertility?

Stress is one of the leading causes of dysfunction in our bodies. It can affect each of the systems in our bodies differently, including the reproductive system. We know that infertility is not simply a “female problem”, so how can males improve their health and decrease stress in order to improve fertility?

 How to decrease stress

One main way to decrease stress is through exercise. Proper exercise and movement can increase testosterone levels in males. Our bodies were meant to move, so movement helps increase overall function. Working out and moving our bodies consistently, helps to keep each of the body’s systems functioning at a high level. Along with decreasing physical stress, movement also helps decrease mental stress. Exercising releases endorphins and stimulates the brain to release different neurotransmitters that help hormone production. Too much exercise can lead to a decrease in testosterone production, so make sure you are recovering well and properly supporting your body after exercise.

Oxidative stress is another leading cause of male infertility. There is research showing oxidative stress causes at least 30% of male infertility. Oxidative stress occurs when there are a higher amounts of free radicals in our bodies than antioxidants. Males should focus on incorporating a well-balanced diet with plenty of antioxidants to help combat oxidative stress.

A few other ways to fight oxidative, physical, chemical and mental stress are: chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, quitting smoking, proper hydration, balanced sleep regimen and decrease toxic load.
