What is a KAMS Assessment?

May 25, 2020

Exercise is more than just moving your body. In order to get the results that you are looking for and are helpful to your overall health, you must perform movements correctly! That is where Kinetisense and our KAMS assessment comes into play.

Our Kinetisense Program has many different functions that we utilize in order to help optimize our patients and their care. One of the programs that we use on patients who want to take the next step in their fitness journey is the KAMS assessment. KAMS stands for Kinetisense Advanced Movement Screening.

The Kinetisense system is a markerless motion sensor device that uses Microsoft Kinect technology to instantaneously detect the client’s body using thousands of data points, allowing therapists to measure within centimeters of where your body is postured. The Kinetisense system provides three-dimensional posture analysis and it accurately measures a client’s range of motion. The device tracks the client’s improvements in all aspects, whether it be balance, range of motion, or posture.

KAMS analyzes 12 movements to provide an objective assessment of an athlete’s motor control and flexibility. These assessments make it easy to see where movement requires adjustment. KAMS automatically generates a Functional Rating Assessment and gives you charts and graphs in order to better visualize how you are progressing. This assessment will give you specific areas that you have either a mobility or stability issue that needs to be fixed. It also gives an objective way to track progress over time.

This assessment can be very helpful with both athletes and non-athletes to see if they are at risk for injury with movements that could be performed on a daily basis. We will go over your results with you in the office and can come up with a plan to get you on the right track if you are looking for help.
