We have all stepped on a scale before to measure our weight. Some people weigh themselves religiously and track their fitness progress by the number on the scale. If that sounds like you, have you ever wondered just what makes up that number? Is it water, muscle, or fat? Or how about how healthy you are in general? Is it the number on the scale that really defines your health, or is it the breakdown of what is really going on inside?
An InBody scan calculates a multitude of things including percent body fat, lean body mass, dry lean mass, extracellular and intracellular water, how healthy the body’s cells are, visceral fat, how symmetrical our bodies are, and more. Knowing the breakdown of our bodies is very important because it allows us to track progress- real progress- and not just the number on the scale. It allows us to see whether or not we really are losing that fat, or gaining that muscle. It shows us how healthy our cells are by measuring the strength of the cell membrane. It also can give an idea of inflammation or other issues that may be going on that we might not know about.
At Opp Family Chiropractic we use it so we can dissect the results and figure out why certain parts of your body may hurt, or find specific areas of health and/or the body that may need some work.
We may use it at your first initial assessment, for a detox, or if a doctor thinks it may be able to help with figuring out more of what is going on. You can also schedule an InBody appointment if you are curious about your body composition and your health. We will briefly walk you through the results, and if you want a more in- depth dive, you can schedule a lifestyle assessment with Dr. Brian to discuss how you can create a healthier life for yourself and feel better overall. Remember, it’s not about adding years to life; it’s about adding life to years.
