Why You Need to Add Chiropractic Care to Medical Care

June 19, 2018

Research Shows the Benefits of Combining Medical and Chiropractic Care

When people seek out care for their back pain they often end up at a primary care physician. In fact, 30% of primary care visits are spine and muscle related. Often the patient is prescribed medication for the pain and muscle spasms without really looking for the cause or source of the pain. Recent research has found that patients saw better results when they combined medical care with chiropractic care. The study looked at military personnel between the ages of 18-50 who had lower back pain, and here is what they found.

After 6 weeks of a combination of medical and chiropractic care, there was a significant reduction in both intensity of pain and the use of pain medications. There also was a high rate of perceived improvement. These two findings indicate a high satisfaction rate of care during those 6 weeks. Often you hear of people who are unhappy with the progress and care they receive when seeing a single provider. Research shows the team approach is very effective for patients.

The study also found that the team approach resulted in a decrease in disability. Patients were able to return to their duties and activities much sooner. Lastly, there was a low risk of harms or adverse effects to patients from treatment. This means that the chiropractic treatment helped reduce the need for medications, eliminating a source of unpleasant or harmful side effects.

When patients come to Opp Family Chiropractic, we want to make sure we are giving them the best possible care. Sometimes that means referring them to other providers to get the care that we cannot give them. In the end it is the results that patients are most concerned about. Our patients find relief through a combination of chiropractic care, posture correction, exercise rehabilitation, and lifestyle changes.
