I was exposed chiropractic at an early age. While growing up on a small farm in southwestern Minnesota, my parents would regularly visit their chiropractor in a nearby town and would take my brothers, sister and me along. Raising crops and livestock is physically challenging and I saw first hand how the care we received kept us healthy and strong. Going to the chiropractor was just a normal part of our lives and helped our family meet the demands of rural life.
Fast forward a few years and I decided to make this wondrous profession my career. I completed my undergrad work at Normandale and the University of Minnesota before completing my chiropractic studies at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN. For the next 17 years I was owner and clinic manager of a practice in Elk River. I recently sold that practice, deciding to step back from the ownership role and concentrate completely on patient care. That’s why I’m so excited to be a member of the fantastic staff here at Opp Family Chiropractic!
I was drawn to the chiropractic philosophy because of the inherent belief that the body will seek to be healthy if given the chance. Sometimes outside factors come into play and the body needs help achieving its natural state of health. Through chiropractic, I was interested in caring for the patient with the disease and not the disease itself – not to intrude and control, but rather to assist and free the body to heal itself.
In addition to helping patients achieve and maintain their best health possible, I have an added interest in helping patients recover from injuries due to auto accidents. My wife was in a serious car accident several years ago and I know how difficult it can be to overcome those types of injuries and return to health. I have taken numerous post-graduate courses from the San Diego Spine Research Institute in the field of auto injuries, and participated in live crash testing to better document and understand the effects of those injuries on the body.
After growing up out on the prairie in SW Minnesota, I’ve come to really enjoy this part of the state and the beautiful area in which we all live. During my time away from the clinic, my wife and I enjoy traveling, golf and spending time with our grandkids. Oh, and I’m also in charge of maintenance at my wife’s gnome village!
